Texture

Texture

Interactive Audiovisual Installation. Lisser Theater, Mills College. April 2014.

Texture is an interactive installation that investigates the mapping of physical gestures to musical parameters in three dimensions. Texture incorporates neural network training to control sonic parameters, resulting in a deep synthesis of body movement, touch sensitivity, signal processing, and audio interaction. Texture is more robust installation of my immersive electronic instrument, the SoundScreen, developed with Laetitia Sonami in Fall 2013. Above all, Texture addresses the notion that creative music making does not stem from technical virtuosity, but resides in the virtuosic exploration of sound, touch, and space. Visitors are encouraged to touch, play, and explore sounds on the depth sensitive spandex membrane.
